Best of my wedding photography: a 2024 round up

I’m not sure I know where to start with this really incredible year of wedding photography. I only take on a few weddings each year now, so every single one is particularly special to photograph. I always get so excited when a couple first starts chatting to me, and we really connect. You are choosing me to capture the best day of your life, and trusting me to do this in the very best way for you. This is really special and I don’t take it lightly. I still get nervous in the build up to each wedding day. But the moment I pick up my cameras and begin, it always just feels right. Weddings will always have such a special place in my heart, even now that most of my year is filled with family photography. 2024’s wedding photography

But let’s talk weddings, that’s what this post is about. The year started and finished in the most incredible way. The first one was Andrew and Kate’s amazing wedding on the River Exe Cafe. This is a floating restaurant in the middle of the Exe Estuary. It was such an unusual wedding venue, and the most beautiful place for them to say their vows. And I finished on an enormous high, with Connie and Kaelan’s incredible winter wedding at Dartington Hall. They began their day with a December sunrise sea swim, which was amazing. There were around 40 of their wedding guests all shrieking and splashing in the almost icy water!

Between these, I had the huge pleasure of returning several times to my absolute favourite venue, River Cottage. I have been photographing weddings at River Cottage since 2013, and I have created images there for over 30 couples. It is the one wedding venue that I will happily go back to, time and time again. It is just the perfect combination: a beautiful setting, a relaxed feel, great ethos and lovely staff. And, of course, the very best food and drink!

I’ve also had some other unusual and exciting weddings. I absolutely loved Louise and Matt’s very individual wedding day in Devon. They had an intimate family wedding in a disused chapel in Crediton, followed by a bigger hand fasting ceremony on Dartmoor. They then celebrated in excellent style, at the village hall at Bridstowe. There was an incredible middle eastern feast, morris dancing, and a ceilidh – it was fabulous! Kristy and Steve had such a gorgeous small family celebration at Tunnels Beaches in North Devon. I really loved sharing this with them and their lovely family and friends. It’s another Devon wedding venue that I’ve loved returning to over the past decade, and it was a glorious afternoon. And I don’t think I’ll ever forget Carla and Martin’s elopement in the waterfall at St Nectan’s Glen in Cornwall. They said their vows standing in the water, with the rain pouring down and the ancient waterfall next to them. It was quite extraordinary.

There have been several other really special celebrations, and I have loved each and every one of them. It’s all about photographing the connection between a couple, and the celebrations that they share with the family and friends around them. The emotions, the feelings, the joy that everyone shares when they come together with the people that matter. That’s such an incredibly special thing, and something that I get so much pleasure from carrying out. This is the reason that I also enjoy family photography so much. It all really comes down to the same thing, which is creating images that capture the feelings. Images that have the power to take you back to a moment in time, to remember exactly how that felt.

I’m particularly proud of this year’s wedding photography. It may have only been a handful of weddings, but I feel that I have created a really strong set of images that is true to my style. More importantly, that I’m delighted to have delivered to my couples. I hope you enjoy looking through this selection of my favourites!
