Hestercombe Gardens Wedding: Kathryn & Jack’s relaxed celebrations
I’m really excited to show you some images from this beautiful wedding at Hestercombe Gardens in Somerset. It is the first time I have photographed a wedding at Hestercombe, and I was so delighted to be there. The estate gardens are managed by the Hestercombe Garden Trust, an independent charity that oversees the restoration and maintenance of the beautiful grounds. It’s the sort of wedding venue that I get really excited about – there are so many different and beautiful sections to the gardens, and the buildings are so beautiful. When I first chatted to Kathryn and Jack about it all, I knew that it was going to be absolutely wonderful to photograph, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed!
Hestercombe Gardens is an incredible place for a wedding. It has the loveliest feel to it, with lots of beautiful old stonework around the stunning gardens, views right across the Somerset hills, and such incredible planting around every corner. The very best bit for me was the Orangery. There is something absolutely irresistible about a wedding in an orangery – all that light, the huge windows, the old stonework, the archways. Just such a perfect place for a wedding ceremony, and it was great to get back in there during the drinks reception for some photos as well. We were lucky enough to have a really warm sunny day, so wedding guests enjoyed drinks on the lawn, and were able to wander around the wider gardens and explore.
The reception meal was held in the Bampfylde Hall, which dates back to the 17th century. This was also a really great space, and it was wonderful to capture all the guests relaxing outside in the evening sunshine here at the end of the day. I loved getting to know Kathryn and Jack, and their family and friends were utterly lovely. Just a wonderful wedding to photograph, and I very much hope to return to beautiful Hestercombe Gardens again soon!
