Family photography in the evening sun

I’m so excited to share some images from this recent evening family photography session. Laura is a brilliant photographer herself, so it was flattering to be asked to photograph her family. There is always a level of extra pressure creating images for another photographer! However, it did also mean that we were on the same page in terms of choosing the best time of day for the photographs. We decided that an evening photography session would work best. Happily, we managed to get the most beautiful evening sunlight for their family images, which added something incredibly special to the session.

I arrived at home with them as the girls were finishing their tea, and I absolutely loved the chance to photograph the family getting ready! All that excited energy, with the children leaping around in the bedroom, giggling and hiding on the bed and just having the best fun together. It’s always a real pleasure to photograph a little bit of normal family life at home, and I love the chance to include this in a session.

Then we headed out to the nearby Blackdown Hills to make the most of the evening sunlight. Laura and family love spending time here. I always love it when a photography session reflects the places that families already love. It adds an extra dimension to the images when they are taken in places that mean something to you as a family. It was brilliant fun! We explored the woods, built pretend campfires and toasted imaginary marshmallows. After exploring a bit more, we rolled around on the grass telling stories together as the evening sun set. It was a wonderful family photography session, and I’m so pleased that we chose the evening for our shoot.
