A baby photo session at home in Somerset
There’s something wonderful about photographing a baby in the place they’ll grow up in, surrounded by their own things, their familiar smells and sounds. That’s exactly what made this baby photo session in Somerset with Lucy, James and their new baby daughter Florence so lovely.
We kept things simple and unhurried, which is always my favourite way to approach a photo session with a baby. There’s a particular kind of quiet in a home during those early newborn weeks, and I always try to let the photographs hold onto that feeling. Florence was a complete delight, and this photo session had the added bonus of the two family dogs. Pets are a big part of your family story and it’s always lovely to include them where possible. It was particularly special to capture the whole family together with the dogs!
Being invited into someone’s home for a baby photo session always feels like a privilege. There’s no studio backdrop standing in for real life, and I’m photographing you as things actually are. Those details matter more than people expect. In years to come, you’ll be able to look back at this incredibly special chapter in your lives together, remembering not just how your baby looked, but how everything felt at the time.
