An outdoor autumn wedding in the kitchen garden: Charmaine & Rob at River Cottage
At the end of September, Charmaine and Rob had the most beautiful and intimate wedding day at River Cottage in Devon. They had an outdoor autumn wedding ceremony in the kitchen garden, in glorious September sunshine. This was followed by garden games and a relaxed celebratory meal in the farmhouse, then partying and outdoor pizzas to finish later on.
It was such a huge pleasure to join them for their celebrations – I absolutely loved getting to know them both, and meeting both sides of their wonderful families. There was so much emotion all day – so many laughs and so many tears, which are both always brilliant to photograph. Charmaine runs her own rather brilliant stationery range, and all the wedding stationery was her own wonderful work (you can check out more of it here – I’d recommend taking a look, because it’s absolutely fantastic!). Charmaine and Rob both got ready together in the farmhouse at River Cottage, right down to Rob helping Charmaine into her wedding dress, and I loved this relaxed way to start everything. The guests joined them before the ceremony, with arrival drinks in the yurt before walking around to the kitchen garden for the outside ceremony.
Despite a very autumnal day, we dodged all the showers, and found plenty of sunshine at all the points that we needed it. It’s always a bit of a gamble, planning an outdoor autumn wedding ceremony, but they were lucky and it was just perfect weather. I loved how crisp and clear the sky was at the end of the day, and it was wonderful to be able to include the starry night in the images of Charmaine and Rob snuggling by the fire pit.
It is always a pleasure to return to River Cottage, and their day was no exception. Having an outdoor autumn wedding ceremony there was particularly special. It was a wonderfully relaxed and fun day, and I really loved photographing it all for them. Here is a little look at their images…
