A North Devon wedding at Tunnels Beaches, Ilfracombe: Hannah & Marek
“Thank you sooo much!!! We absolutely love the pictures. I’m so glad that we found you!”
On a showery day in August 2012, Hannah and Marek celebrated their wedding in Ilfracombe, North Devon. Tunnels Beaches is a particularly gorgeous spot to get married, with a private beach attached to the venue, the rather awesome access tunnels and if you are lucky, the most spectacular sunsets over the sea. I think we were rather lucky indeed that day – there were two of the most torrential showers, but the timing of them both was perfect (mid-morning, then later in the afternoon), and Hannah and Marek managed to pull off an outdoor ceremony in the glorious sunshine! Not only that, but we were treated to a truly lovely sunset at the end of the day, allowing the newlywed couple to spend some really special time together on the beach while I captured the moment for them.
There were many other amazing things about this wedding. Hannah and Marek got ready together in the morning – as Hannah said to me, it seemed almost a stranger idea to get ready separately. Marek had also helped Hannah to choose the beautiful wedding dress, so it was very much a team effort right the way through. I loved this quote from Hannah:
“The day was special to Marek and I in so many ways. I’m glad we spent the whole day together; getting ready, etc. We’ve been together for 5 years before getting married and we truly are best friends. I needed my best friend that morning leading up to the ceremony.”
Marek joined Hannah in the grooming process, having his hair slickly brylcreemed to fit with the 40s/50s. Hannah had the most elegant ‘up do’, and just looked absolutely beautiful. Hannah and Marek’s Cockerpoo, Wulfric, took a particular like to the pink bridal petticoat and made himself comfortable there while everything else was going on!
Hannah and Marek love dancing – in fact, when I did their engagement photographs at Woolacombe (here), they started dancing in the waves, which was particularly wonderful! So they surprised their guests by having the entire bridal party take it in turns to dance up the aisle – just brilliant :). Then they danced again at the end of the ceremony! The music for the day was carefully chosen by by the couple, with an amazing range of big band swing, jitterbug and Rock’n’Roll music from across the decades, creating the most wonderful atmosphere throughout the whole day.
It was a gorgeous, relaxed celebration, from start to finish, and I absolutely loved photographing it. I hope that you will enjoy sharing it too:

Here is a little preview from a fun extended family shoot on Saunton Sands last Friday – in between chasing runaway toddlers and dodging an enormous surf school outing, we managed to capture some wonderful memories for this family on holiday in Devon. I can’t wait to share the full set with them all –…
I don’t know quite where to start with this. I get really quite emotional when I think about all the people I have had the privilege of photographing this year. All the brides and grooms who have asked me to take on the huge job of recording their wedding day for them. Of capturing all…
At the end of September, Charmaine and Rob had the most beautiful and intimate wedding day at River Cottage in Devon. They had an outdoor autumn wedding ceremony in the kitchen garden, in glorious September sunshine. This was followed by garden games and a relaxed celebratory meal in the farmhouse, then partying and outdoor pizzas…
Christine and Richard celebrated their wedding at lovely River Cottage last weekend, and I absolutely loved photographing it all for them. They decided to have just an intimate celebration with their close family, with a small outdoor ceremony in the kitchen garden and a relaxed afternoon celebration in the farmhouse and yurt. It could not…
Midsummer’s Day is a really romantic date for a wedding, and this year it was about as perfect as it could be, with glorious sunshine all day long and the most spectacular sunset. Paula and Tim chose to get married at Mapperton Gardens, the beautiful home of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich. The gardens…
Earlier this year, Phaedra and George got married in Somerset, with a wonderful tipi reception in the apple orchards at Perry’s Cider, near Illminster. It was the most extraordinarily pretty wedding to photograph, with the tipis filled with beautiful decorations, lanterns and fairy lights, and the orchard location lifting everything to a sublime level…
