A North Devon wedding at Tunnels Beaches, Ilfracombe: Hannah & Marek
“Thank you sooo much!!! We absolutely love the pictures. I’m so glad that we found you!”
On a showery day in August 2012, Hannah and Marek celebrated their wedding in Ilfracombe, North Devon. Tunnels Beaches is a particularly gorgeous spot to get married, with a private beach attached to the venue, the rather awesome access tunnels and if you are lucky, the most spectacular sunsets over the sea. I think we were rather lucky indeed that day – there were two of the most torrential showers, but the timing of them both was perfect (mid-morning, then later in the afternoon), and Hannah and Marek managed to pull off an outdoor ceremony in the glorious sunshine! Not only that, but we were treated to a truly lovely sunset at the end of the day, allowing the newlywed couple to spend some really special time together on the beach while I captured the moment for them.
There were many other amazing things about this wedding. Hannah and Marek got ready together in the morning – as Hannah said to me, it seemed almost a stranger idea to get ready separately. Marek had also helped Hannah to choose the beautiful wedding dress, so it was very much a team effort right the way through. I loved this quote from Hannah:
“The day was special to Marek and I in so many ways. I’m glad we spent the whole day together; getting ready, etc. We’ve been together for 5 years before getting married and we truly are best friends. I needed my best friend that morning leading up to the ceremony.”
Marek joined Hannah in the grooming process, having his hair slickly brylcreemed to fit with the 40s/50s. Hannah had the most elegant ‘up do’, and just looked absolutely beautiful. Hannah and Marek’s Cockerpoo, Wulfric, took a particular like to the pink bridal petticoat and made himself comfortable there while everything else was going on!
Hannah and Marek love dancing – in fact, when I did their engagement photographs at Woolacombe (here), they started dancing in the waves, which was particularly wonderful! So they surprised their guests by having the entire bridal party take it in turns to dance up the aisle – just brilliant :). Then they danced again at the end of the ceremony! The music for the day was carefully chosen by by the couple, with an amazing range of big band swing, jitterbug and Rock’n’Roll music from across the decades, creating the most wonderful atmosphere throughout the whole day.
It was a gorgeous, relaxed celebration, from start to finish, and I absolutely loved photographing it. I hope that you will enjoy sharing it too:

An elopement wedding by the sea has to be one of the best ways to get married. Relaxed and intimate, with the waves crashing on the beach. It would certainly be high up on my bucket list, if I was ever going to get married again. NB this would obviously have to be to my…
Well, this stylish Dartmoor wedding was a bit special! Tabby completely dazzled in an uber cool Vivienne Westwood bridal dress, and Duncs looked fabulous in a bespoke suit from Casely Hayford. All the bridesmaids wore red and pink, and the wedding guests paraded the best set of outfits ever. The entire wedding day was just…
I loved Natalie and Aidan’s laid back River Cottage wedding day! They had just a handful of guests, mainly immediate family and a few close friends, and they celebrated in the loveliest style. After an intimate ceremony outside the farmhouse, everyone enjoyed a relaxed afternoon of fun and games in the kitchen garden, followed by…
I’ve photographed weddings at the Tithe Barn, Symondsbury before, and it’s a venue that I really love. Symondsbury is a gorgeous estate, with lots of different and equally beautiful properties around the village. The barn is such a fabulous wedding venue, with pretty gardens and light streaming through the ceiling windows. Just the perfect setting…
It is such a pleasure to blog Anna and Iggy’s gorgeous Dartmoor wedding celebration. It was such a relaxed day, from Iggy and his groomsmen getting ready at Manaton, with the children playing in the barns, and Anna and bridesmaids walking up to the local hairdresser before getting ready back at Anna’s parent’s house. Meanwhile,…
I have visited the River Exe Cafe before, it’s such a treat. A unique restaurant, sitting right in the middle of the Exe Estuary, accessible only by boat (or paddle board if you are feeling brave!). So imagine my excitement when Andrew and Kate got in touch to chat about their wedding photography there! I…
