A North Devon wedding at Tunnels Beaches, Ilfracombe: Hannah & Marek
“Thank you sooo much!!! We absolutely love the pictures. I’m so glad that we found you!”
On a showery day in August 2012, Hannah and Marek celebrated their wedding in Ilfracombe, North Devon. Tunnels Beaches is a particularly gorgeous spot to get married, with a private beach attached to the venue, the rather awesome access tunnels and if you are lucky, the most spectacular sunsets over the sea. I think we were rather lucky indeed that day – there were two of the most torrential showers, but the timing of them both was perfect (mid-morning, then later in the afternoon), and Hannah and Marek managed to pull off an outdoor ceremony in the glorious sunshine! Not only that, but we were treated to a truly lovely sunset at the end of the day, allowing the newlywed couple to spend some really special time together on the beach while I captured the moment for them.
There were many other amazing things about this wedding. Hannah and Marek got ready together in the morning – as Hannah said to me, it seemed almost a stranger idea to get ready separately. Marek had also helped Hannah to choose the beautiful wedding dress, so it was very much a team effort right the way through. I loved this quote from Hannah:
“The day was special to Marek and I in so many ways. I’m glad we spent the whole day together; getting ready, etc. We’ve been together for 5 years before getting married and we truly are best friends. I needed my best friend that morning leading up to the ceremony.”
Marek joined Hannah in the grooming process, having his hair slickly brylcreemed to fit with the 40s/50s. Hannah had the most elegant ‘up do’, and just looked absolutely beautiful. Hannah and Marek’s Cockerpoo, Wulfric, took a particular like to the pink bridal petticoat and made himself comfortable there while everything else was going on!
Hannah and Marek love dancing – in fact, when I did their engagement photographs at Woolacombe (here), they started dancing in the waves, which was particularly wonderful! So they surprised their guests by having the entire bridal party take it in turns to dance up the aisle – just brilliant :). Then they danced again at the end of the ceremony! The music for the day was carefully chosen by by the couple, with an amazing range of big band swing, jitterbug and Rock’n’Roll music from across the decades, creating the most wonderful atmosphere throughout the whole day.
It was a gorgeous, relaxed celebration, from start to finish, and I absolutely loved photographing it. I hope that you will enjoy sharing it too:

Getting married in 2020 has been an.. er.. interesting challenge. Coronavirus, the lockdown, social distancing, all the restrictions required. The situation is so difficult for everyone, and I feel so much for all the people that have been affected. From all the different wedding suppliers, to the guests, the friends and family members and of…
I’m really excited to show you some images from this beautiful wedding at Hestercombe Gardens in Somerset. It is the first time I have photographed a wedding at Hestercombe, and I was so delighted to be there. The estate gardens are managed by the Hestercombe Garden Trust, an independent charity that oversees the restoration and…
I’ve been looking back through 2022’s wedding photography, and wow, it has been a belter of a year! I only take on a small number of weddings each year now, which means I get to really focus on each one. It also means that I can work exclusively with couples who really click with me…
I had the pleasure of photographing Hattie & Tom’s tiny Cornwall wedding this weekend. It took place at the beautiful Budock Vean hotel, on the River Helford. Just the most stunning location! I’d met them both earlier this year, when I photographed Hattie’s brother Rob’s wedding in Cardiff. It was really wonderful to see them…
Sooo… Zoe and Danny… the ultimate relaxed boho wedding day! I have enjoyed putting this blog post together so much. There was such a big build up to this epic day, and I knew it was going to be incredible. But it still smashed all my expectations. Zoe was a bridesmaid to one of my…
It is such a pleasure to blog Anna and Iggy’s gorgeous Dartmoor wedding celebration. It was such a relaxed day, from Iggy and his groomsmen getting ready at Manaton, with the children playing in the barns, and Anna and bridesmaids walking up to the local hairdresser before getting ready back at Anna’s parent’s house. Meanwhile,…
