A North Devon wedding at Tunnels Beaches, Ilfracombe: Hannah & Marek
“Thank you sooo much!!! We absolutely love the pictures. I’m so glad that we found you!”
On a showery day in August 2012, Hannah and Marek celebrated their wedding in Ilfracombe, North Devon. Tunnels Beaches is a particularly gorgeous spot to get married, with a private beach attached to the venue, the rather awesome access tunnels and if you are lucky, the most spectacular sunsets over the sea. I think we were rather lucky indeed that day – there were two of the most torrential showers, but the timing of them both was perfect (mid-morning, then later in the afternoon), and Hannah and Marek managed to pull off an outdoor ceremony in the glorious sunshine! Not only that, but we were treated to a truly lovely sunset at the end of the day, allowing the newlywed couple to spend some really special time together on the beach while I captured the moment for them.
There were many other amazing things about this wedding. Hannah and Marek got ready together in the morning – as Hannah said to me, it seemed almost a stranger idea to get ready separately. Marek had also helped Hannah to choose the beautiful wedding dress, so it was very much a team effort right the way through. I loved this quote from Hannah:
“The day was special to Marek and I in so many ways. I’m glad we spent the whole day together; getting ready, etc. We’ve been together for 5 years before getting married and we truly are best friends. I needed my best friend that morning leading up to the ceremony.”
Marek joined Hannah in the grooming process, having his hair slickly brylcreemed to fit with the 40s/50s. Hannah had the most elegant ‘up do’, and just looked absolutely beautiful. Hannah and Marek’s Cockerpoo, Wulfric, took a particular like to the pink bridal petticoat and made himself comfortable there while everything else was going on!
Hannah and Marek love dancing – in fact, when I did their engagement photographs at Woolacombe (here), they started dancing in the waves, which was particularly wonderful! So they surprised their guests by having the entire bridal party take it in turns to dance up the aisle – just brilliant :). Then they danced again at the end of the ceremony! The music for the day was carefully chosen by by the couple, with an amazing range of big band swing, jitterbug and Rock’n’Roll music from across the decades, creating the most wonderful atmosphere throughout the whole day.
It was a gorgeous, relaxed celebration, from start to finish, and I absolutely loved photographing it. I hope that you will enjoy sharing it too:
Hannah and Marek’s wedding was also published on Rock My Wedding, so take a look if you’d like to read more of Hannah’s words about the day: Rock My Wedding
It’s now three days since I shared Lucy and Josh’s incredible wedding by the sea, and I think I’m still smiling. It simply was the most joyous celebration, and utterly, utterly perfect from start to finish. I had a really good feeling about the whole day before it even started. Lucy and Josh had just…
I have photographed a whole series of small family weddings recently, and they have all been so wonderful! Marie and Clive’s celebrations at River Cottage included. It was an absolutely gorgeous wedding, with just two of their siblings and families, and Marie’s parents. Clive’s other brother and family joined via iPad from the other side…
A wet weather wedding day? What is one of the things that couples worry about most when planning their wedding? That ultimate British weather issue: what if it rains? Nobody wants a wet weather wedding day. But you’ll still have the best day ever, whatever the weather throws at you! You just need to put…
South Devon has so many really gorgeous spots, but Noss Mayo has to be up there with the best of them. One of the most beautiful villages, with Newton Ferrers on the other side of the water, and the prettiest location on an estuary of the River Yeam. Helen and Sheppy’s wedding took place in…
Midsummer’s Day is a really romantic date for a wedding, and this year it was about as perfect as it could be, with glorious sunshine all day long and the most spectacular sunset. Paula and Tim chose to get married at Mapperton Gardens, the beautiful home of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich. The gardens…
If you are looking for a real wow factor wedding barn, then I think you’ll enjoy looking through Natalie and Tim’s celebrations. They took place at Neadon Barn, on Dartmoor, and it really is the most breathtaking wedding venue. The Dartmoor setting is just beautiful, with craggy hills and stunning views all around. It’s not…
