A North Devon wedding at Tunnels Beaches, Ilfracombe: Hannah & Marek
“Thank you sooo much!!! We absolutely love the pictures. I’m so glad that we found you!”
On a showery day in August 2012, Hannah and Marek celebrated their wedding in Ilfracombe, North Devon. Tunnels Beaches is a particularly gorgeous spot to get married, with a private beach attached to the venue, the rather awesome access tunnels and if you are lucky, the most spectacular sunsets over the sea. I think we were rather lucky indeed that day – there were two of the most torrential showers, but the timing of them both was perfect (mid-morning, then later in the afternoon), and Hannah and Marek managed to pull off an outdoor ceremony in the glorious sunshine! Not only that, but we were treated to a truly lovely sunset at the end of the day, allowing the newlywed couple to spend some really special time together on the beach while I captured the moment for them.
There were many other amazing things about this wedding. Hannah and Marek got ready together in the morning – as Hannah said to me, it seemed almost a stranger idea to get ready separately. Marek had also helped Hannah to choose the beautiful wedding dress, so it was very much a team effort right the way through. I loved this quote from Hannah:
“The day was special to Marek and I in so many ways. I’m glad we spent the whole day together; getting ready, etc. We’ve been together for 5 years before getting married and we truly are best friends. I needed my best friend that morning leading up to the ceremony.”
Marek joined Hannah in the grooming process, having his hair slickly brylcreemed to fit with the 40s/50s. Hannah had the most elegant ‘up do’, and just looked absolutely beautiful. Hannah and Marek’s Cockerpoo, Wulfric, took a particular like to the pink bridal petticoat and made himself comfortable there while everything else was going on!
Hannah and Marek love dancing – in fact, when I did their engagement photographs at Woolacombe (here), they started dancing in the waves, which was particularly wonderful! So they surprised their guests by having the entire bridal party take it in turns to dance up the aisle – just brilliant :). Then they danced again at the end of the ceremony! The music for the day was carefully chosen by by the couple, with an amazing range of big band swing, jitterbug and Rock’n’Roll music from across the decades, creating the most wonderful atmosphere throughout the whole day.
It was a gorgeous, relaxed celebration, from start to finish, and I absolutely loved photographing it. I hope that you will enjoy sharing it too:
Hannah and Marek’s wedding was also published on Rock My Wedding, so take a look if you’d like to read more of Hannah’s words about the day: Rock My Wedding
Christine and Richard celebrated their wedding at lovely River Cottage last weekend, and I absolutely loved photographing it all for them. They decided to have just an intimate celebration with their close family, with a small outdoor ceremony in the kitchen garden and a relaxed afternoon celebration in the farmhouse and yurt. It could not…
The past year has brought some of the most wonderful weddings for me to photograph! It has been just such a joy to get to know another set of really lovely couples, and to travel around Devon, Somerset and Cornwall for a range of really beautiful weddings. I’ve been reducing the number of weddings I…
I am so delighted to share some images from Louise and Matt’s wonderful Devon village hall wedding. They managed to fit a lot into the day, with two ceremonies, a ceilidh, morris dancing and an incredible Middle Eastern feast. I know I use this word a lot, but it really was an utter JOY of…
Here is a bit of a visual and emotional treat. Daisy and Sally’s wedding was last October and it truly was one of my favourite days ever. Not only was the styling and attention to detail absolutely beautiful, and the Cornish farm / converted barn setting just perfect, but the amount of emotion flowing through…
Tuesday wasn’t quite the hottest day of the year, but it really did feel like it. Alex and Ben had a tiny elopement wedding at River Cottage, and it was stunningly beautiful. And unbelievably hot. We spent a lot of the day skulking around in the shadows and I’m not sure I stopped sweating at…
An elopement wedding by the sea has to be one of the best ways to get married. Relaxed and intimate, with the waves crashing on the beach. It would certainly be high up on my bucket list, if I was ever going to get married again. NB this would obviously have to be to my…
