A bride and groom dancing in the water, in front of St Nectan's waterfall at their elopement wedding

St Nectan’s Glen elopement

This elopement at St Nectan’s Glen was one of the most unique and memorable weddings I’ve ever photographed. Carla and Martin said their vows at the bottom of St Nectan’s waterfall on the evening of the summer solstice. There was nobody else there apart from the registrars, witnesses, and me to take photographs of it all. How utterly wonderful is that?!

St Nectan’s Glen is actually a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is considered to be one of the UK’s most spiritual sites. It has the most magical feel to it. There is a winding route down to the glen surrounded by moss and ferns, and a beautiful tree canopy overhead. The sound of the waterfall creates the most incredible atmosphere, and it really does feel like a truly special place.

Carla & Martin’s wedding

The site was closed to tourists at the end of the afternoon, so we had the whole place to ourselves. After getting ready together in one of the lodges, Carla and Martin walked down to the glen, and tiptoed through the waters together. They stood at the bottom of the waterfall and said their wedding vows in this incredible place. The rain absolutely poured down and I was almost giddy with excitement the entire time! Tiny elopements are always a really special event to photograph, and so are weddings in really unusual places. I also have a real love for ferns, trees and light through leaves. Carla and Martin were also just the loveliest couple, so this was an absolute dream for me!

We had a little bit of time after the ceremony, alone in the glen. I created some portraits of Carla and Martin while they enjoyed the waterfall together in the rain. Then they headed back up to the tea room for a romantic meal for two, sitting on the balcony overlooking the tree canopy. It was just the most incredibly memorable evening, and such a special way to get married. I just loved photographing their elopement there, and I left with the biggest smile on my face. When you look through these photos, I’m sure you will see why I loved it all so much!

Huge thanks to Tracey and the rest of the team at St Nectan’s Glen. They were just so welcoming and friendly! Thanks also to the lovely Cornwall registrars, who helped make the ceremony so special.
