Cos and Vicky’s beautiful humanist wedding
This incredible humanist wedding was such a wonderful day to be a part of. Vicky and Cosimo wanted their wedding day to be as personal as possible, and reflect them as a couple and what getting married meant to them. This turned out to be one of the most special ceremonies I have been privileged enough to photograph. The humanist wedding took place in the most beautiful ancient church on the Somerset/Wiltshire border, St Mary’s at Old Dilton. As a disused church, they were able to have a humanist ceremony inside, and it was such a beautiful and unique celebration. Vicky and Cos have some incredibly talented musician friends, who put together a special arrangement of songs they had chosen for the ceremony. Rather than traditional wedding hymns, they had David Bowie and The Beach Boys, with the entire congregation joining in for the choruses. I can’t begin to describe how incredible it was to hear over a hundred voices all singing “ch…ch…ch…ch…changes” in unison!
The reception took place back at Vicky’s family home, with a relaxed drinks reception in the beautiful gardens. Everything was themed around Italian olive groves, which are special to Vicky and Cos. The marquee looked so pretty with the olive trees dotted everywhere, and fairy lights twinkling in the background. They had also put together one of the most wonderful ideas for their guests’ wedding favours – an individually chosen/created Lego character for each and every guest. It was wonderful to see everyone’s faces as they opened their personal surprise. An evening of feasting and brilliant speeches followed. Then a surprise, with a spectacular fireworks display slipped in, before some full on dance floor action to end the party.
I always really love a humanist wedding. There is something so special about putting together a ceremony that exactly reflects you as a couple, in a really personal way. I loved the relaxed feel to all of it, and how unique everything was. It was an amazing celebration filled with all the love and happiness in the world. Congratulations Cos and Vicky, it was a delight to share this day with you both!
